Screening
Employees for
Drugs of Abuse
In order for the drug testing task to be successful, certain
protocols such as information gathering and specimen collection have to be followed. A
representative from Toxicology Associates, Inc. will assist you with these important steps
which are necessary for accurate reporting of drug test results.
1. Information Gathering
A Chain of Custody/Drug Consent Release form will be filled out with the
donor's name, id number, medications, etc. Proper identification such as a driver's
license is required. See Chain of Custody/Drug Consent Release form.
2. Specimen Collection
Collection of a sample can be done at our laboratory or at your work
site. Toxicology Associates, Inc. will provide all necessary materials for sample
collection.
A sealed drug free urine container will be given to the donor for urine collection.
Thereafter, the temperature (must be 90 oF or above) will be noted within 4
min. Temperatures below 90 oF indicate substances (i.e. water, salt, etc.) were
added to give an inaccurate result. To avoid tampering of the sample, the donor will
initialize and date the seal, which will be placed over the urine container.
Once the sample is received in our laboratory, we will note other characteristics of the
sample such as color, odor and pH of
the urine, before proceeding with analysis.
3. Delivery/Transport of Specimen
Routine
Local - Toxicology Associates, will provide courier service at No
extra charge. For out of town, delivery through Airborne Express or UPS will also be
provided at minimal charge.
Stats (Emergency)
There will be an additional Stat fee of $65.00 per sample.
4. Testing of the sample
We will screen for drugs classified under DEA Controlled
Substances. These include classes of drugs such as Marijuana, Cocaine,
Opiates, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Methadone, Meperidine, PCP, Amphetamines, and
Propoxyphene that are commonly used and abused today.
5. Methodology
of Drug Testing
All employment/pre-employment drug testing will be done by AlphaTox method. This is the only to catch those who are trying to
beat the drug test system.
Confirmation:
According to State of Ohio law, any positive result must be
confirmed by a different method preferably by Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS).
This assures 100% confidence of results at all times. GC/MS is highly accurate and
sensitive. It is the only federally approved form of confirmation.
6. Turn-Around
Time
Routines - within 24 hours
Stats - between 1.5 - 2 hours. This will vary depending on
the complexity and already existing critical emergency case.
7. Reporting
of Results
Results can be reported verbally, and/or faxed. A hard copy of the
laboratory report will be mailed. Confidentially, results will only be reported to the
authorized individual.
