| Because of the number and the type of
drug(s) that one consumes in an overdose, recreational, and medicational
purposes, toxicological screening for drug(s) was developed. This
is useful in clinical, employment/pre, legal, rehabilitation, domestic cases,
etc.
Toxicology screening can be done in blood, gastric, urine, and other
bodily fluids. Specimens of blood and urine are the most common. For
quantitative analysis, blood is the ideal choice of specimen as this gives the true level
of the drug. Additionally, it is often use for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring
(TDM) which is partially critical successful treatment of patient.
For qualitative analysis, urine is the best specimen not only it can
be obtained in large volume, but also high concentration of drug can be found.
Therfore, it is generally use for employment/pre-employment drug screening, child custody
cases, and many others.
