Regular Marijuana vs. Synthetic Marijuana
The type of Marijuana that many people get a "High" feeling comes from a plant called Cannabis sativa. The main psychoactive compound is called Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol (D9THC), that can be found and are concentrated in the leaf and bud parts of the plant with bud having the highest concentration of D9THC. In addition, D9THC binds with two receptors of the brain called CB1 and CB2 receptors. With this interaction of the binding of D9THC with CB! and CB2 receptors, the person becomes more calm, a feeling of elation, carefree, and others. However, the D9THC also affects the hypothalamus(responsible for controlling hunger, thirst, and sex drive) part of the brain in that in addition of getting "high", the person usually craves foods, thereafter.
The Synthetic Marijuana or Synthetic Cannabinoids, on the other other hand also target or binds to the CB1 and CB1 receptors of the brain. However, synthetic cannabinoids are made in a laboratory and ihas a potency of as much as 800 times compared to regular marijuana. Therefore, the experience is different depending on the concentration and type of Synthetic Cannabinoids. Because the concentration, or potency of many Synthetic Cannabinoids it can have deleterious effect of the person's health. At this time, there are over 150 known and synthezised Synthetic Cannabinoids including JWH-018, XLR-11, AB-Fubinaca, 5F-AMB, and many others.
